FROM THE STUDIO TO THE OCEAN
The first SALUE prototypes were never meant to stay inside the studio. Although the collection was designed far from the ocean, every decision was inspired by life by the sea. Sketches, fittings and fabric samples could only take us so far. Before finalising the jacket, we wanted to understand how it would perform in the environment it was truly created for. That journey brought us to Biarritz, on France's Atlantic coast.
From our last visits we knew Biarritz offered exactly what we were looking for: changing weather, strong Atlantic winds, long coastal walks and hours spent outdoors. Rather than relying only on fittings or technical testing, we wanted to experience the jacket as part of a real day by the ocean. From morning walks along the coastline to afternoons at Côte des Basques, every moment became part of the development process.
LIFE BY THE COAST
Life by the coast rarely follows a fixed routine. You might start the day with a walk, spend the afternoon surfing or swimming depending on the conditions, stop for lunch overlooking the ocean, and finish with a drink as the sun begins to set. Clothing needs to move naturally between these moments without feeling restrictive or out of place. That simple idea became one of the guiding principles behind SALUE.
SHAPED BY OCEAN AND SUN
Throughout the trip, we paid attention to the smallest details. How did the fabric feel after hours under the sun? Did it stay comfortable when temperatures changed? Did it move naturally while walking, cycling or carrying a surfboard? Those observations helped us refine the final garment. The fabric proved exactly what we had hoped for: lightweight, breathable and comfortable throughout the day, while providing certified UPF 50+ sun protection for long hours outdoors.
REMINDER OF THE OCEAN
The Atlantic influenced more than the jacket's performance. Weathered cliffs, mineral textures and the changing colours of the ocean quietly inspired subtle details throughout the collection. We wanted the garment to carry a small reminder of the coastline—not only through its function, but also through its design.
DESIGNED FOR CHANGING DAYS
By the end of the trip, the jacket had become more than a prototype. It had been worn on coastal paths, layered over swimwear, carried through changing weather and packed into everyday adventures.
Most importantly, it confirmed one of the ideas behind SALUE: sun protection should adapt to changing conditions. The jacket is designed to be worn, opened, adjusted—or simply taken off when the heat calls for it, with sunscreen protecting exposed skin.
