FROM COASTAL INSPIRATION TO SALUE`S FIRST PIECE
SALUE draws not from a conventional beach aesthetic, but from the culture of the Atlantic — from places where the ocean is not simply a backdrop, but part of everyday life. Its influence can be felt in the landscape, in the pace of life, in the way people move between coast and city, and in a certain rawness and independence that belongs to these regions. SALUE takes this Atlantic world as a cultural reference: cooler, stronger and more elemental than the familiar image of beachwear — raw, mysterious and deeply connected to the sea. This is the feeling behind “Salt on the skin, hue wherever I go.” Halo-01 is the first piece to carry it into clothing.
WHY THIS PIECE
Halo-01 began with a simple question: What could sun protection look like if it didn’t look like traditional sun protection? Most UV clothing is rooted in sportswear. We wanted to create something different: a piece that could move naturally between coast, city and everyday life. From the beginning, Halo-01 was designed as a layering piece. Its cropped silhouette focuses coverage on the shoulders, upper back, arms and décolleté, while allowing a swimsuit, top or dress underneath to remain part of the look. Protection was never meant to feel added on — it had to shape the design itself.
DEVELOPING THE SILHOUETTE
Early sketches explored proportion, volume and freedom of movement. During prototyping, particular attention was given to the shoulders and arms, leading to the generous sleeve volume that became one of Halo-01’s defining features. Curved sections and sculptural shapes create movement while subtly recalling shells and organic forms found along the shoreline. What began as a functional solution gradually became part of the visual identity of Halo-01.
FUNCTION HIDDEN IN DETAILS
Many of the jacket’s functional elements are designed to remain almost invisible. Open sections along the sleeves allow air to move through the garment while creating a distinctive silhouette. A generous back vent adds ventilation and movement, while adjustable cuffs make it possible to change how much of the arm is covered depending on the situation. A magnetic front closure allows the jacket to open quickly and easily. None of these details were intended to make Halo-01 look technical. Instead, the goal was always to let function become a natural part of the design.
FINDING THE RIGHT MATERIAL
Material research became another important part of the process. We searched specifically for fabrics with certified UV protection, while also considering how each textile could work within a wider wardrobe. Different materials naturally suggested different applications: soft jersey for lighter layers, denim for more structured pieces, and durable twill for garments designed to handle everyday wear. For Halo-01 Black, we chose a robust UPF 50+ fabric with enough structure to hold the sculptural silhouette while still feeling comfortable to wear. For the Denim version, the same protective idea is translated into a familiar everyday material. The aim was not to create clothing that feels like UV sportswear. It was to create fashion pieces where sun protection feels like a natural part of the design.
FROM PROTOTYPE TO DEBUT PIECE
Turning the original sketches into a finished garment meant many small adjustments: proportion, sleeve volume, openings, construction details and the way the fabric behaves while moving. Alongside the design process came another challenge — finding production partners in Europe willing to work with small quantities. Rather than starting with large-scale production, Halo-01 is being produced as a small first edition. That approach allows SALUE to develop slowly, test ideas in the real world and continue refining the collection with each piece.
THE BEGINNING OF SALUE
Halo-01 is not intended to stand alone. It is the starting point for a wider idea: a modern coastal wardrobe shaped by movement, layering, sun protection and life near the ocean. Future pieces will continue this dialogue between function and form — made for changing environments, from water to land, from coastline to city. Halo-01 is simply where that story begins.
